Readers Theater for Grades 4-5 - AoPS Academy Fremont Campus

Readers Theater for Grades 4-5

Summer Language Arts

Students take to the stage in this exciting, interactive reading course designed for students entering grade 4 or 5! Students will develop important language arts skills while working together to write, rehearse, and perform their very own plays. During class, students engage with several different texts through deep, independent reading and guided analysis. The class features a Newbery-winning longer work that students read both in class and at home, and multiple shorter pieces that we close-read together in class. Each day also features interactive games and public speaking exercises, including class discussion, debate, readers theater, and competitive team activities.

During the two weeks, students will read The One and Only Ivan by K. A. Applegate. They will also learn advanced literary skills that will help them write their scripts, such as how to pitch their stories and format their writing. They will conclude the class by performing their final work.

This two-week course meets Monday through Friday for three hours each day. Summer 2020 courses will run online for all sessions.

Space is very limited for our summer programs. Please do not wait until the last minute to enroll. If there are more than two weeks before the course starts, a $200 deposit will be due when enrolling, with the balance due two weeks before the course begins.

Summer Enrollment Deadlines: Summer Language Arts enrollment for each class closes two weeks before the class start date to allow time for delivery of course reading material. Summer Math enrollment for each class closes one day before the class starts.

"AoPS Academy has a superb curriculum, combined with outstanding teachers who have provided our son a fantastic foundation in mathematics. If only I could have experienced teaching like this when I was young, it would have changed my career choice. The academy is a perfect extension of school in that they challenge students to learn at a much deeper and rigorous level. They also stimulate their interest in mathematics by emphasizing analytical thought over rote memorization of formulas.

The academy truly lays a deep foundation in mathematical thinking for success in all areas involving STEM subjects. It is really exciting to be among teachers and children who love math!

The harder the problem - the more exciting it is to the students and teachers at AoPS Academy."
